Denny's, Lavale, MD

Located at 1239 National Highway, Lavale, MD 21502, you can find Denny's menu at http://www.dennys.com/en/. Click HERE for Yahoo! maps and directions. We apologize for the images of death on their main website so be forewarned, there's chicken period and carcass'.

Well, where do we begin? We went to Denny's about a year ago and was pleasantly surprised to find they had a vegan veggie burger that tasted pretty darn good! Upon our most recent visit, we learned that their veggie burger now includes cheese chunks. Bastards! Ruin a good thing! Anyway, during our ordering dilemma, we explained to the waiter that we were vegan, which meant that we did not consume any meat or dairy products. He assured us that the veggie burger now had cheese. We asked what other options they had, and we received the standard answer, "Salad." Meh. Fine, we were here. Whatever. Salad it was.

Jim ordered a side of hash browns, which he totally dug.

Imagine the horror, when what to our wondering eyes would appear, but a bowl of iceberg lettuce, lovely greens and veggies, topped with what?? You guessed it.. cheese. No shit! We are not kidding. After pointing the cheese out to the waiter, and reminding him that the cheese was the reason that we didn't order the veggie burger, he kind of went Doh!, and asked us if we wanted new ones. After watching the movie, "Waiting", and having both previously worked in the food industry, we feared spit and decided to pick out the hundred or so bits of disgusting lactate. Had they managed to leave the cheese off of it, it still wouldn't have been very interesting.

There were no other items on the menu that were vegan friendly. We can't recall the price of the meal as it totally wasn't worth it, even if it was a nickle!

Quality of Food:
Hashbrowns: Stellar!
Salad: Sucks!
Willingness to Accomodate: Sucks!
Overall Experience: Sucks!

Gehauf's, Lavale, MD

The idea for this blog came up over this meal. Jim had a craving for something different other than the old main stays, which include Taco Bell and Chinese, which we will cover in a later post. After a quick Google search on the Blackberry, Gehauf's came up and was only about a quarter of a mile from where we were parked... Jim called ahead and asked about "entrees free of meat and dairy", the woman replied, "Oh! You mean vegan!" That's always a plus!! Turns out there were a few possibilities so what the hell, let's give it a whirl!

Located at 1290 National Highway, Lavale, MD 21502, Gehauf's is located on the Best Western premises. Their hours of operation and menu can be found at http://gehaufs.com. You can go HERE for the Yahoo map information.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Hummus & Pita, which was freakin sweet! It is the classic garbanzo beans, garlic, etc. recipe; however, they managed to get the proportions just right! The serving size was adequate for ordering a quick lunch.

Jim ordered the Pasta Primavera, angel hair pasta with a big ole pile of veggies on top, and garlic sauce. It was awesome!

Jodi originally ordered the Penne with Vodka sauce; however, upon requesting no cheese throughout the entire order, the waitress returned to inform us that Parmesan cheese was already mixed into the sauce. It looks like Spaghetti Marinara would be Plan B. Who wants curdled bodily fluids anyway? This dish was your average plate of spaghetti.

Both the Pasta Primavera and the Spaghetti meals include Garlic bread, which is a no go due to its pus factor.

The menu did not offer any other Vegan friendly options, except for salad, but everybody's got a salad!

The total for the meal was $33, and we both walked away stuffed, and still took some home! These will make for a bangin midnight snack!
